• J.K. Rowling first thought of Harry Potter on a train.

• Rowling's publishers use her initials, J.K. on the cover instead of her full name, Joanne Kathleen, because they didn't think boys would by a book by a woman.

• When trying to sell the first book, Rowling was so poor she had to type two copies of the manuscript because she couldn't afford to photocopy the original.

• Rowling writes 3 to 11 hours a day to have one Harry Potter book finished a year.

• Rowling and her British publisher buried a time capsule containing children's predictions for the last book under King's Crossing Station in London.

• Hagrid and Professor Lupin are Rowling's favorite characters.

• The Hogwarts official motto is Drago Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus. It means, "Never tickle a sleeping dragon"!

• Hermoine is based on the author herself. "I think I was really annoying when I was 11," Rowling says. "I loosened up though, as I got older - a lot."

• In French, vol de mort means theft of a dead body.

• Harry Potter was born on July 31, 1980. He turned 13 before receiving his first birthday card!

• The British publisher paid only $4,000 for the first Harry Potter book. Two years later, the American publisher paid $105, 000 for the same book.

• The easiest way to see if a house is occupied by wizards is to check the lawn for gnomes. They don't live in Muggle yards!

• Rowling has taken names for the series from a number of different places. For example, Hedwig was a saint, Dumbledore is an old English work for bumblebee and Snape is the name of a place in England.

• The ending of Harry's new book is so frightening that Rowling said she once had to stop writing because she was getting too scared.

• A school in McLean, Virginia has started its own Quidditch team.

• The British publishers of Potter books, Bloomsbury, makes two covers for the book: one for kids and one for adults.

• Bookstores gave out over half-a-million tattoos of the purple scar when they first sold "Prisoner of Azkaban".

• Rowling hasn't yet written the seventh and final Harry Potter book, but she's already written the last paragraph. The last word in the paragraph will be "scar."

• When Harry, Ron, and Hermione are telling Hagrid that Snape is trying to steal the stone, he tells them that Snape helped protect the stone, and 'he's not about to steal it'.  However when they actually go down to save the stone, Snape's challenge, the logic one with potions, is missing.

• In the part where Harry, Ron and Hermione are fighting the troll, when Ron knocks the troll out it falls flat on its face - but when Harry takes his wand out of its nose, its head is facing the right-hand side.

• When Hermione is battling the Troll in the girls' bathroom, the Troll uses his club to smash one of the basins that Hermione is hiding under, but the next shot of Hermione under the sink shows that particular sink intact and unharmed.

• When the three children get past Fluffy because the harp is playing, as Fluffy wakes he dribbles on Ron's shoulder. However, when they fall down into the Devil's Snare, his jumper is completely dry. 

• After the three heroes have been to investigate Fluffy and they go back to the dorms, Hermione goes to the left, when earlier on just after they were sorted the girls' dorm was said to be on the right. 

• After Harry escapes the restricted library with the cat following him, once he come across the professors the cat disappears. 

• When Hermione is battling the Troll in the girls' bathroom, the Troll uses his club to smash one of the basins that Hermione is hiding under, but the next shot of Hermione under the sink shows that particular sink intact and unharmed.

• When he removes the invisibility cloak in front of the mirror, what happens to it? It's visible when he's not wearing it, but it's nowhere to be seen...
